Hi there! I just moved into my new home (a townhouse with 2 stories.) Now i’m worried because my chiuahuahs are very curious and they want to go up and down the stairs (made of wood)
I’m scared they could slip and fall one day so what do you suggest to keep them from climbing? Maybe one of those baby gates? I thought of saying ‘no’ and punishing when they try to go up but that’s not enough for them. Please help, thanks.
I guess, thanks to those of you that gave me actual answers ![]()

If you are that concerned about their safety you should teach them how to go up and down on their own, when you are not home put them either up stairs or down stairs and put a baby gate on so they cannot get on them. You should be concerned because some Chihuahuas are so fragile that if they jump down from somewhere then they could break all their legs. Please take my advice! Hope I helped!
EDIT: That’s a stupid question: Don’t be so mean, Chihuahuas are great dogs. They are toy dogs, you probably like bigger dogs and that is why you said that! Haven’t you been taught the "If there’s nothing good to say don’t say anything at all" rule?
Get real dogs.
Just let them. I doubt they’d slip and fall. They have rubber covers you can put on stairs. That would lessen the risk.
EDIT:
Are you stupid? Chihuahua’s are real dogs. Don’t be so ignorant.
the baby gate idea sounds good. or, if you are worried about them slipping, you could just get rubber mats or carpet mats and put them on the steps- i think you know what i mean-the little ones…
hope i helped!

Just let them the once, so they can have a good sniff around.
Maybe put carpet or a rug on the stairs, or a baby gate?
