How can I get a pet store shut down?

This item was filled under [ Pet Gate ]

I monitor pet stores alot around where i live. I mostly check on the health of the rabbits they carry because I’m opening a rabbit rescue. I’ve gotten two stores to stop selling rabbits. This store i went into today was awful.

They had birds missing feathers and living in fish tanks, six ferrets stuffed in one ten gallon tank, no food for any of the hamsters, ferrets, or mice. dogs were in tink areas on the bare tile floor blocked off with baby gates. one puppy was in a guinea pig cage. the people i talked to who bought from there all had their pets get sick or die soon after purchase. and the rabbits were skinny and entirely too young to be legally sold.

i’ve recieved 2 rabbits rescued from there and both are going to have health problems the rest of their lives and they may not live as long as they could have.

i want to call and have them shut down, but i dont know what to do. usually i talk to the owners of the stores but these people dont care. they dont even know how to pick up an animal. (i watched one woman grab a rabbit by its throat)

You have to call city or county Animal Control, the SPCA or Humane Society where you live. If those are not available, find any animal welfare organization listed. They know what legal action they can take. I am glad you are so concerned for animal welfare. No one should ever go to pet shops these days when so many lovable pets are in shelters. Hurray for your courage! Please report them as soon as possible.

Report them to the better business bearu (BBB) and have a complain or you could file a report with some kind of animal mistreatment facility in your area and they will take care of mostof the dirty work for you :)

also you can have everyone you know report them. And maybe even start a protest. If anything they might clean up their act.

Talk to your local humane society they should do an inspection and and get things started. I hope everything works out for those poor animals. Best of luck to you!

    Dearest Courtney,
I can tell that you really care about the Pets. Get organized, get some
like minded friends together and contact local authorities. Every town
of any size has an office of the SPCA. There are also other groups that
do the same sort of things. The conditions you describe are also
unhealthy for humans—try the health department. Get in touch with a
local newspaper or Tee-Vee station. A nearby radio station may also
be of great help. Dress nice and visit the local police station or
sheriff’s office. Call in to talk shows in your aria. They may not let
you call them by name but you can describe the conditions the animals
live under. And get your friends to do the same! If one person complains
it doesn’t mean much. But one every two or three days will be noticed.

you should go to the store and look around..but secretly record them! that way you have proof on how they maintain there store. so if they try to clean up you have your proof. after you record them… report them to animal services. and shut them down

    Protesting is much more fun.
