In the wild west frontiersmen rode horses, in ancient India warriors were known to mount elephants and in parts of Africa legend has it that ostridges were the choice of transportation. But in 21st Century South Africa Marius Els plays, swims and even rides Humphrey the hippo. Raising the 1200 kg animal since it was just five months old, Marius has a unique bond with the six year old male who lives on his farm. Pictured here in a dam specially built by Marius the hippo is free to wander the open plains of the farm though due to safety reasons can only interact with his life long friend.

that farmer was overweight .. Humphrey just gave him hippo-suction that’s all.

@alphamonX Did he deserve to die? Absolutely not. Was it a risk he was ALWAYS taking? YES. Hippos are one of if not the most dangerous animal on the planet (based on the number of people they kill each year).

lol @ all the youtube teenage “experts” on the behaviour of Hippos and analyzing stuff like FOOT placement.
Animals aren’t stupid as you think they are. Whenever stuff like this happens, its blown out of proportion and people think this happens everyday. The truth is, it doesn’t happen often. My family has been raising tiger cubs and tigers on our reserve for two generations now. Not once have any of my cats shown any hostility toward me.

I get that he was trying to do the decent thing by raising the hippo but the riding on his back part was F’in stupid. Hey capable of killing man animal I’m just gonna start treating you like a water horse, You’re just gonna have to accept it and ignore your basic animal instincts. F’in stupid. :thefuckf:
