@manhuntruler2 80% of people from the Philippines are RC so probably Catholic. I think they are the same folks who put on the really, really scary passion plays too. The world is an interesting place.

@daser1220 Many Catholic Churches dedicated to St. Francis do blessing of pets and livestock on or around Francis’ feast day. As I youth I celebrated mass at St. Francis of Assisi church in Belfast, Maine. There were llamas and cows and pigs and snakes all in the sanctuary on St. Francis’ Day.

Yep. Asia is a land of extremes. Their either on your plate, or being venerated by your Church leaders.

@chunky1x Yes I can see how one would think that. But people do love their pets, and people of faith do like this particular feast day.
Back in the day farmers would bring in their milking cows and plow horses for the blessing. It is a long tradition in some cultures, but one thing is for sure… it does make it more festive the parading of animals up to the alter. Kids love it, pet owners feel more connected to their companions, and nonsense or not, it’s fun. Peace.

@empacae Treat your pet right and give it your best love and support is all it needs. This is why other countries veer away for religion. You waste more time and money in nonsense and never truly deal with real problems of faith and society. I live in this county and this a stupid annual event and still same old problems about population, discrimination and etc.

@chunky1x I hear this argument all time, about minimalism is all that is needed. But is that all there is? Can there be more? It’s a spectrum, and people so want more.
I live in Canada, and a lot of Phillopeanos live here among many other cultures, religions, sexual orientations, and we live in relative harmony with one another respecting and enjoying the diversity we give each other.
You can live a minimalist life, but in the end, people will want more…. this offers it for their pets.

@empacae I wish our country live similar equality and tolerance as yours. The point made by many here is that, the church blessed these $400-1000 pets that pissed a lot of people including me. Have you ever wondered why so many Filipinos object to this in the comments below? In the past, they do this to farmers live stock and work animals, now the just do this to practically rich communities and no longer to peasant communities. Equality is never a strong point here.
