I have 2 dogs with 2 different problems?

This item was filled under [ Pet Gate ]

I have a golden retriever and he is 5 years old and has always had a habit of pawing at people when he wants to be pet. It used to be cute but now he hurts everyone when he does it because he gets his claws into it. I can handle the dog myself with it but it really irritates the rest of my family and he leaves marks. so if you could help me with him that would be awesome, thanks.

My second dog is also 5 years old but he’s a Siberian Husky. He is house trained but…we have the dogs stay downstairs when we sleep, there are high baby gates that keep them from getting upstairs. When everyone has gone to bed he will decide to piss in different spots all over the house. Usually its up against something but he never does it while people are downstairs, i was hoping someone could maybe tell me why he does it and how to get him to stop.

thanks in advance

    1. Gently but firmly grab and squeeze your dog’s paw when he pokes, so that he becomes uncomfortable and pulls it away. Now instead of getting a postive reaction (petting) when he paws people, he will expect a negative reaction and stop doing it. As you squeeze, give him a verbal reminder such as ‘no’ or ‘off’, so that in the future the squeezing won’t be needed…just a quick verbal cue to stop .

    2. Crate for your husky. He pees when no one’s there because he can get away with it….no one to stop him from marking his territory, which is more than likely for the benefit of your other dog. The sneaky devil. If you don’t really want your dogs roaming the house at night anyway, give him a crate to sleep in. He’s unlikely to pee in his own sleeping area.

    Good luck.

For your golden retriever I would suggest whenever he paws push him away and say no in a "mean" sounding voice Also ask him to lay down whenever you want to pet him, and never pet him unless he is laying down that sounds teach him. Don’t pet him or praise him when he does paw at you. Also try standing up every single time he paws and you because then he will realize what he is doing is wrong. for your husky now put him in his crate at night. Dogs most likely will not pee were they are sleeping. The only way to really stop it would be to catch him in the act every single time. Otherwise there is no real solution for his problem.
