should i get a bunny? and i dont want one because of easter, but i finally have income to afford one now.?

This item was filled under [ Pet Gate ]

my boyfriends parents are VERY hesitant to allow us to get one, for a few reasons.

1) they used to have bunnies, and they did not know anything about them (they had flemsih giants, but didnt know the difference) so they think that they know more about them than we do. because their bunnies got so big, they assume ours will be too. ours will be about 4 ibs full grown. small.

2) we have 3 dogs. and these dogs are terriers, and havent been trained very well. HOWEVER we and the bunny are in a seperate part of the house, where the dogs are not, and there are gates preventing them from being with us

3) his dad says that hearing the dogs will stress out the bunny, and he will likely die from the stress. well, we are adopting him from an spca where he is constantly around dogs and cats, and is used to their antics. he will be safe.

now, we will only be staying here for another 3 months, so it would not be that long that the bunny would be stressed. and we are completely prepared. we have a cage and a gate and all the amenities, weve read books about them, and weve bunny proofed our living space.we will be getting a dwarf lionhead. also, we used to have 4 dogs, but we had to get rid of our dog because sister had a baby, and there was a promise that all the dogs would be given away. this was a lie, and we are the only ones without a pet, and we need something to help us get over our baby.

so, is it a really bad decision to get a bunny or are they just overthinking it?

If you keep your rabbit in a different part of the house it shouldn’t be a problem. If the terriers howl try to him/her in a room with a closed door. The dog noises could be alarming to the rabbit at first but reassurance will help them overcome the fear. Try to keep them in a quiet spot in general though, not next to a TV or something.

If you were tricked into giving away your dog I would support your want of a new companion pet. Before you get a rabbit though you should have a serious conversation with your boyfriend’s family about their dogs and why promises were made and broken about keeping them. Then explain to them the reasons why you want a pet and how you expect your new rabbit to be treated (i.e. not as prey or a toy for the dogs to chase).

Good luck with getting a rabbit, they are very lovable.

Well I took care of my brother’s bunny while he and his gf were away and I have a dog,cat and a guinea pig.Bunnies are really easy to take care of but they use the bathroom a lot so you’d probably have to change the cage a lot. They’re so cute too! Also you have to hold them a lot so they can get played with but they’ll be fine if you don’t hold them.Um…if you have like a dog that will try to mess with the bunny then put the bunny UP HIGH like on a dresser or table that the dog can’t reach and close the doors if there are any.I think you’d love your bunny if you got one :D
Hope I helped you out :)

    Well….
I have two and they are a lot of money. they have to get 2 injections each year costing £17 each. Unless you have a lot of time to work with it you should consider getting more than 1.

Apart from all that they are lovely and after a short period of time they will become one your best friends!! :) x
