This morning i let my two dogs into the yard to pee. about 20 minutes later i heard a high pitched barking i looked out the window and saw lars sitting in the street. i came out and yelled at them to get back in the yard. i was confused because both gates were closed as they should be. then my heart broke. my little boy at the sound of my voice dragged himself to the side of the road. i ran to him. he was whining and though there was no blood his bottom was swollen on one side. someone had hit my baby with a car and drove away without the courage to knock on the door. they left him there. i grabbed him instantly and drove to the animal hospital. Xrays showed that lars’s pelvis was crushed as well as one leg. he did not cry. but he would not look me in the face and continued to look away as he does when hes been scolded. the vet is keeping him overnite to watch for internal bleeding. She said if he has no severe internal injuries that we can take him to a specalist in las vegas for surgury on his pelvis and leg. that he will have a good quality of life. the overnite visit was 6 and the vet says the surgery will cost upwards of 3000. I have no money. i am a waitress, and just spent my savings on securing a spot for my wedding. if i could get that money back i would. i will delay the wedding indefinetly to take care of my boy. I put the 6 on a credit card, but i dont know what to do. if it will really save my baby i will go into debt i will take out credit cards, but iv heard theese types of surgeries can cost more then 00. i dont think i will even be approved for a limit that high. however i will do whatever i have to do. I have emailed whatever organizations i have been able to find that might help with vet bills. but they dont look too promising. most require an extremely low income level. i am not on welfare, i make bout 22,000 a year which excludes me from most financial aid programs, but i do not have any savings..my biggest fear is that i will prolong his suffering out of guilt. does anyone have a dog whos had surgery for a crushed pelves? Do they live in pain? I want my baby home so bad. his companion is crying and wont get off the towl i carried him to the hospital in. He is the heart of our home. I feel i need him him to be ok so badly, but i dont want to turn him into an experiment. what is the humane thing to do? for the record, there was a third gate at the back of our property that that we never use. is never opened. there was a windstorm the night before, and the whole gate blew down. i had no idea. i will never forgive myself for the million things i could of done differently this morning. i have read small bits of information on the web about people adopting a pet when the owner cant afford the vet bills. i havnt found anything concrete. this is killing me but i will give up my lars if someone will keep him alive if i cant. does anyone know about theese programs. please help, any advice or links are apprecciated. please pray for my boy.
thank you all for your fast and kind respnces. some of those links i havnt been to yet i will try them right now thank you all again. the vet will not take payments, but maybe the specalist will. it helps just to hear from someone. i feel so helpless.
